Timothy A. Reese is a nationally recognized investment executive and public sector leader with a career defined by high-stakes turnarounds and institutional excellence. As the Chief Executive Officer and Chief Investment Officer of the Pennsylvania Municipal Retirement System (PMRS), Mr. Reese oversees a $3.9B portfolio and more than 1,060 pension plans. Under his stewardship, PMRS achieved a 104.7% funded status and was honored with the 2024 CIO Industry Innovation Award.
Recognized by Markets Group as a 2026 Elite CIO, Timothy has built a reputation for bridging the gap between complex financial strategy and operational reality. He specializes in “rescue missions” – taking systems plagued by legacy technology or fiscal volatility and transforming them into modern, transparent, and top-performing organizations. His leadership at PMRS resulted in a 9.5% return in 2024, ranking the fund in the top decile of its peers.
Prior to his current role, Timothy served as the Pennsylvania State Treasurer, where he acted as the CEO of the Commonwealth’s Treasury Department. In this capacity, he managed $100B in state funds and pioneered an Emerging Manager program that committed $700M to diverse and impactful investment strategies. His background as an Electrical Engineer and his experience in the private sector with firms like Honeywell and Microsoft have allowed him to apply a unique, data-driven “Engineering Mindset” to the world of institutional finance.
Beyond his executive roles, Timothy is a prominent voice in the global investment community. He serves on the Global Capital Markets Advisory Council for the Milken Institute and is a frequent speaker at international forums from London to Hong Kong. He is deeply committed to family and community, currently residing in Pennsylvania with his wife and children while maintaining an active presence on several local and national industry boards.
Timothy holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Temple University. He holds FINRA Series 7, 79, 52, and 63 licenses.
