Planning to Retire
I’m thinking about retiring. When should I contact PMRS?
We strongly encourage everyone to contact PMRS between six months to a year before they retire to request a retirement estimate. The appropriate form and details about how to apply for the benefit will be provided with your estimate.
When I retire, how much money will I receive every month?
Your monthly retirement benefit is based on the contract that exists between your employer and PMRS. Each pension plan provides a certain benefit, but generally the longer you work and the higher your compensation, the greater your retirement benefit. Contact PMRS to request a retirement estimate between six months to a year prior to your retirement for a retirement estimate.
Can I retire early?
Early retirement is allowed in most plans, please refer with your employer or plan benefit summary. When retiring early, the monthly benefit is reduced each month the retirement takes place prior to normal retirement age.
Benefit Payments
What if my retirement check does not arrive?
If your retirement check does not reach you by the 10th business day of the month, you should contact PMRS. Direct deposit of your retirement payments will allow you to avoid problems with mail delays. To receive a direct deposit application, please contact us or download the form from our site.
